Sahiwal (UPA) – Railway employees and passengers staged a (sit-in protest) on the railway track at Sahiwal Railway Station, temporarily halting the 15-Up Karachi Express. The train remained stopped for approximately ten minutes while protesters chanted slogans and demanded immediate restoration of electricity.
According to details, electricity to the railway station has been disconnected for the past week due to non-payment of a 4 million rupees bill owed to MEPCO (WAPDA). Railway authorities allegedly failed to clear the outstanding amount, resulting in the power supply being cut off.
Due to the disconnection, electricity is unavailable in railway colonies, the railway police station, rest house, dispensary, running room, railway yard, and guard room. Water supply has also been disrupted. Washrooms at the railway station have been locked, causing severe inconvenience to passengers.
Residential railway employees and police personnel are facing serious difficulties. Despite the protest, electricity has not yet been restored, and the entire area remains in darkness at night.
Employees stated that no electricity dues are pending on their part, as electricity charges are deducted monthly from their salaries. They clarified that the unpaid bill pertains to CBI Signals, which has not yet been settled, and questioned why they are being penalized for it.
During the holy month of Ramadan, the lack of electricity has created significant problems for Sehri and Iftar preparations, and daily life has been severely affected. The employees have urged the Divisional Superintendent (DS) Multan to immediately clear the outstanding dues and restore electricity
