Islamabad. Federal Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif’s statement that more than half of Pakistan’s bureaucracy has bought properties in Portugal and is preparing to get citizenship there has drawn sharp reaction from government officials and related government agencies.
Khawaja Asif wrote in a post on his official X account that “more than half of the bureaucracy of the homeland has taken property in Portugal and is preparing to take citizenship. And these are the so-called gram bureaucrats. But the fish are living a comfortable retirement life by eating billions of rupees.
He wrote that a close bureaucrat of Buzdar has only received a salute on the marriage of four billion daughters and is living a comfortable retirement life. Politicians eat and beat them, not plots or foreign citizenship, because elections have to be fought. This bureaucracy is plundering the holy land.
A NAB source also confirmed the development, saying, “We are not aware of any disclosure of this nature. Nor are there any cases under our investigation that are consistent with the Minister’s allegations.
Commentators are unable to understand why Khawaja Asif made such a blunt claim in a tweet.
A senior government official said the minister’s tweet had caused widespread resentment among the civilian bureaucracy. This sends a wrong message to the morale of the government officials.
The Establishment Division source clarified that the bureaucrat, who has been mentioned in a vague manner in the context of his relationship with Usman Buzdar, had already been relieved of his job with the approval of the prime minister, and disciplinary action had been taken against him as part of a formal inquiry.
Although officials acknowledge that there are elements of corruption in the bureaucracy and that some have abused power, they say it is not correct to label more than half of the entire service as corrupt.
