Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, has said that there is a worrying similarity between the policies of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, both of whom are engaged in efforts to uproot the local population in the occupied territories.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN made the remarks while addressing a ceremony in New York to mark the completion of six years of Kashmir Exploitation Day, organised by Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the UN and the Pakistani Consulate in New York.
The event was also addressed by Dr. Asif-ur-Rehman, Kashmir Representative, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Secretary General of the World Kashmir Awareness Forum, and Hamid Opeloiro, OIC Permanent Observer to the United Nations.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed said that we are seeing worrying similarities between the policies of Narendra Modi and Netanyahu. Both are engaged in attempts to root out the indigenous population in the occupied territories, be it Kashmir or Palestine, to forcibly alter the demographic proportions and suppress the legitimate aspirations of the people.
He said India was trying to silence Kashmiri voices through demographic engineering, giving domicile to non-Kashmiris, and altering electoral constituencies. But such plans will never be successful.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed stressed that Kashmiris are not alone. “Pakistan stands firmly with them and will continue to extend moral, political, and diplomatic support until they get justice and fulfilment of their legitimate aspirations.” “”
Consul General Aamir Ahmad Itauzi paid tribute to the courageous struggle of the Kashmiri people against the Indian occupation forces. He said that despite Indian oppression, Kashmiris were not demoralized. Their resistance is a powerful example.
The OIC Permanent Observer to the United Nations, Ambassador Hamid Opelevaro, said the OIC has always called upon the international community to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir issue by the UN Charter, Security Council resolutions, and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
In a webinar held at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, DC, a minute’s silence was observed to pay tribute to the struggle of Kashmiris.
The webinar was also attended by Mushahid Hussain Syed, former Ambassador Munir Akram, Dr Victoria Schofield.
The speakers strongly condemned the change of population ratio, political and legal engineering, and human rights abuses in occupied Kashmir by India. He warned that such actions could be dangerous not only for the region but also for global peace and security.
