Sahiwal (Farhan Inayat): After a 20% increase in diesel prices, train fares have also been increased. According to the Pakistan Railways spokesperson, it has been decided to increase economy class fares by 5%, while AC class fares have been increased by 10%.
Pakistan Railways will bear the additional burden of the operational costs of passenger trains itself. However, freight train fares have been increased by 20%.
The increase will come into effect from March 9 and will apply to all freight and passenger train fares. The decision will not apply to tickets that have already been booked.
After the increase in diesel prices, the rise in train fares had become inevitable.
